The Best Mexico City Restaurants to Make Out In
Around last year, I decided to PG-13 my dating style. This meant I reverted to my teenage self, equivalent to when your crush would come over and you’d watch 90210 together, sometimes being broken up by awkward hand touches and glimpses, all the while your parents were a couple of feet away occupied in the kitchen.
I returned to this slow and mundane dating technique, or speed bumps, as an adult that way I’d really get to know a person minus the physical bonding (and at times deception), follow my instincts more, and not fall into old habits ie. the new york “nightcap” move. This also means I spent a lot of time on first base. To inspire your own PG-13 exploration, I’m sharing my collated list of the best restaurants to make out in by variables of scenery, lighting, how grown up the space is, and of course, their drink list.
Meroma - It’s intimate, the downstairs couches are comfy, and they make a great martini.
Vigneron - Is it their grand cru taste level or that everyone else is already making out here? Either way, you feel swayed to lock lips. Or maybe it’s just the Burgundy.
Salon Rosetta - The grown-up interiors and VIP room vibe encourage sitting a little closer, ordering another French 75, and seeing where the night goes.
Elly’s (upstairs at the bar for two) - One could think this could be the worst table, away from the main floor, but actually, it’s the best. You have your own bartender and basically a corner spot all to yourselves.
Em (must be outside) - One of the few places open on a Monday. It’s got that neighborhood corner spot energy and can make you feel you’re in a Wong Kar Wai film. It’s even better when there’s a little drizzle.
Casa Franca - Multiple rooms and opportunities for make-outs with the background of live jazz.
Botanico - I’m only putting this here because the garden is beautiful and it is such a scene and be seen in the place, so best if you’re feeling your inner exhibitionist side wanting to come out.
Tokyo Music Bar - Obviously some of the best cocktails in town along with an equivalent vinyl sound system.
Taverna - This is one of the prettiest restaurants in Mexico City with trees inside the restaurant.
Malix - the charming neighborhood spot in Polanco, intimate and bar seating so you can get extra close.
Where NOT to go:
Rosetta - It lost its adult makeout privileges because it has gotten so touristy.
Cicatriz - Because who hasn’t made out here?
Where I may go:
Somsaa (higher priced but cute decor). I’m not sold entirely on the experience but since they just opened I’ll give them another chance.
Martinez - again, I wasn’t impressed by the food or experience but it’s in the neighborhood and had a cute crowd.
Babero - It’s the it new spot worth a try.
